The first half hour consultation is free, when you get to know whether we know what we are talking about and what we are like as people at a sensitive time in your life, and we can find out whether your problem is something that you should use us for. For example, it might be that we just need to tell you what to say or write, or refer you to a charity. That is fine – we will be here next time if you are really in trouble.

How you pay is usually up to you but as a privately paying client we offer fixed fee if you make a full payment on account, otherwise you can use an hourly rate. If you have a strong case you might be able to use “no win no fee”. You might find you are insured through your union or home insurer, in which case you are entitled to choose us as your own solicitor rather than use trainees at their own “bulk buy” firm.

Our hourly rate depends what level of lawyer you need but typically you are looking at £125-250 an hour plus VAT and “disbursements” (fees we pay on your behalf such as barristers). Legal aid rates are lower and come off your winnings. What matters of course is how many hours it takes and whether you win, so talk to us about our expertise and ask about our fixed fees as a measure of how confident we are. Some work of course is so open ended that all you can is retain us to help you however you need up to a spending cap you set.
